Adventure Bound Hard Shell Kayak Expeditions

Adventure Bound supports hard shell kayaks on our trips at no additional charge.

Experienced hard shell kayakers may join our expeditions with their own equipment on some of the best wilderness rivers in the west. Prior experience with the water level and rapid ratings are required, contact our office for details on this exciting option. Inflatable kayaks are also featured on all of our trips and are available at no additional charge. If your river trip companions do not have hard shell experience, they will enjoy the comfort and stability of the inflatable kayak without prior kayaking experience.

NEW for 2010 - Hardshell Kayak Instruction!

Join Adventure Bound and the Telluride Kayak School for an unparalleled kayak instruction trip in the extraordinary wilderness river canyons of the southwest!  The warmer water coupled with the multi-day river experience combine to provide the ideal conditions for your kayaking skills to excel.  Telluride Kayak School's cutting edge curriculum and distinct teaching progression is simple and straightforward.  Whether you're a first-timer or an intermediate paddler, we have a multi-day river trip that will fit your kayaking needs and goals.

Hard shell kayaks on calm river

Beginner

Join us for an introduction to kayaking on a tranquil 25-mile stretch of the Colorado River. No experience is necessary for our Ruby Canyon 2-day beginner course, though familiarity with the wet exit from the kayak is helpful. Instruction on this beautiful and calm stretch of river will consist of a stroke progression, edging/eddy turns, bracing and the Eskimo roll. Students will come away with a solid foundation of skills and confidence to kayak more difficult sections of the Colorado River and more.

Intermediate

Improve your big water technique and "playboating" skills on the big drops of Cataract, Yampa and Westwater Canyons of the Colorado. Advanced beginner and intermediate instruction is available "on request" for groups of kayakers on all Adventure Bound trips. Instruction will consist of "Bomb-proofing your roll" advanced stroke techniques, and "new school" surfing and down river maneuvers.
